Migori man believed dead found in a Rongo bar

A family in Ombok Kware village in Migori County is confused after their kin, who they believed had died after he went missing three weeks ago, was found drinking alcohol at a bar in Rongo town.

A decomposing body that resembles the man was discovered by the police in a sugarcane plantation in Awendo and the family claimed it believing it was that of their lost kin.

The family had already bought a casket and paid mortuary expenses with the burial scheduled for next week on Tuesday, March 28, when a relative found him drinking alcohol at Centre Inn Bar in Rongo town on Friday evening and took him home.

The relative, Erick Owiwa, said the family was told the man they believed dead had been seen at Kamwango gold mine and at a pub in Rongo town.

Fortunately, another relative, Samuel Obange, found him drinking alcohol at the Rongo bar.

Mr Owiwa said the family received information on Friday evening that their lost kin, who was believed dead, had often been spotted at Kamwango gold mine and at a pub in Rongo Town.

Relatives said the man was facing undisclosed charges in court and his family had already reported his “death” to the court and were waiting for a burial permit from the government.

The family is now in talks with Luo elders to perform cleansing rituals for their found kin.
