Migori man buries ailing daughter alive

Police in Migori have launched investigations into the death of a six-month-old baby who was allegedly buried alive by her father in Suna East sub-county.

According to area assistant chief Fredrick Owino, the man identified as Marcellus Odek returned home at night and under the influence of alcohol, picked up a jembe from the house and dug a grave in which he buried the child, who was reportedly suffering from breathing complications.

The baby’s mother, Annah Auma was reported to have been unconscious at the time of the incident after earlier falling down due to her epileptic condition.

Mr. Opiyo said the accused committed the act on the night of March 14, 2018 and in the absence of family members or neighbours.

A relative, Millicent Achieng’, said Odek found them in the house with the child still breathing before picking up a jembe and starting to dig.

Achieng’ added that she sought help from the neighbours but they declined to stop the man from burying the child, forcing her to walk away in fear that the man would attack her as well.
