Migori matatu operators want fuel traders to reduce prices

Migori matatu operators want the Energy Regulation Commission (ERC) to crack the whip on petrol stations which are yet to reduce the cost of fuel despite the reduction of VAT on fuel to 8percent.

According to the Matatu operators , they have not been able to reduce the cost of traveling as expected by travellers since the government announced a reduction of fuel prices because most of the petrol stations are still charging them exorbitantly.

Migori county bus park matatu operators chairman George Rarieda said that there are petrol stations especially in Nyatike and Suna West that are still charging Ksh.138 per litre and now they want the ERC to take action.

“The Energy Regulation Commission must now come to the ground and ensure that individuals and companies dealing on fuel products comply with the directives,” he said.

His sentiments was echoed by Migori-Sori route matatu Sacco chairman Jared Oketch saying that the matatu operators are going to reduce the fare where necessary.

Oketch said the government should move with speed to see that all petrol stations in the country comply with the new fuel prices from the ERC.

He has also urged the local leaders to ensure that roads used by the operators are properly maintained adding that the condition of the road will also determine the cost of travel in the county.
