Migori: Nurse dies after delivery due to loss of excess blood

A nurse attached to Migori Level Four Hospital on Wednesday night died after delivery due to loss of excess blood.

Rosemary Oucho reportedly passed on since the medics could not immediately access blood needed for a transfusion to replace the excess blood she lost while giving birth.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the deceased’s husband Felix Otieno urged the county health department to establish a viable blood bank to save patients who need blood transfusion urgently to limit cases of maternal death occasioned by postpartum hemorrhage.

Migori County Chief Health Officer Dr. Dalmas Oyugi expressed remorse, adding that shortage of blood is not just an issue in the county but in Nyanza region as a whole.

According to data from Migori County’s health docket, 34 per cent of women died due to postpartum hemorrhage in 2018.

Medics further termed postpartum hemorrhage as one of the highest killers of expectant women and children at the time of delivery.
