Two motor vehicles belonging to Migori County ODM Party Chairman Philip Makabongo were on Saturday night torched by unknown assailants during an attack on his home.

According to Mr. Makabongo, the two vehicles — Toyota Sprinter and Subaru — were torched within his compound a few minutes past midnight when he and his family were asleep.

Confirming the incident, Rongo sub-county Police Commander Peter Kirui said they are yet to make any arrests but are presently pursuing a few leads.

“He (Makabongo) was awakened by an explosion outside his house, he went outside and found the two motor vehicles burning,” said the police boss.

“He mobilized people to put off the fire and immediately reported to police the incident. The motive of the incident is yet to be established.”

Mr. Kirui added that the fire had already consumed a larger part of the vehicles by the time Mr. Makabongo and the area residents put it out.

The assailants fled when the ODM official came out of his house after hearing the explosion.
