Migori ODM nominees clash over gubernatorial hopefuls

Tension has rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in Migori after supporters of gubernatorial candidate, Okoth Obado, expressed their displeasure with ODM’s nominee for Woman Representative, Dr. Pamela Odhiambo, over her gubernatorial choice.

Obado’s camp faulted Dr. Odhiambo’s failure to endorse the incumbent governor during the recent party primaries leading to a strained relationship between the two sides.

Dr. Odhiambo was on Sunday, May 5 heckled in Uriri during a prayer ceremony at the home of ODM nominee for Uriri Parliamentary seat, Mark Nyamita.

Dr. Odhiambo, who was invited to the function that was also attended by Governor Obado, told Radio Ramogi that one of the governor’s campaigners had confronted her asking why she has never supported Obado since her entry into elective politics.

“The confrontation was meant to incite the public against me, it was a plot by some local leaders who are supporters of my opponents who lost in the party primaries,” she said.

She added that her focus was on her campaigns and that of her party leader, Raila Odinga, saying that she was at pains to explain why she is a target of the politicians in question.

“Leaders must now sober up and sell their policies to the electorate and campaign for Raila, we are past the party primaries and should channel our efforts towards making sure we clinch the presidency.”

The Women Rep candidate had previously raised a red flag over growing gender-based violence in the County’s politics urging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and political parties to play their part to ensure women are protected as they run for elective office.

Radio Ramogi contacted Uriri parliamentary ODM nominee, Mark Nyamita, the host of Sunday’s event, over the heckling but there was no response as calls and text messages were not answered.
