Migori police impostor detained for seven more days

A 32-year-old man accused of impersonating a police officer was on Wednesday detained for seven more days by a Migori court pending investigations.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the suspect – Antony Obare – was presented in court where the prosecution asked for more time to complete their investigations.

Mr. Nthenge added that Criminal Investigation Officers are presently on the ground gathering more facts which will help in prosecuting the suspect.

The police boss further stated that they are also on the trail of two more people suspected to have been working closely with the imposter.

Citizen Digital has established that one of the two other suspects include a cyber café operator alleged to have made the fake police identity card; he has since been arrested.

Mr. Obare was on Tuesday arrested by police officers around Huduma Centre in Migori after he reportedly attempted to con a nurse working at Migori Level Four Hospital.

Mr. Nthenge said the police officers, acting on a tip off from the said nurse, lured the imposter to Huduma Centre where they pounced on him.

Mr. Obare was – upon his arrest – found in possession of a fake police identification card purporting that he was a Senior Superintendent attached to the Criminal Investigations Department.
