Migori Senate aspirant denies Ruto link as Raila begins campaign tour

Eddy Oketch, who is vying for the Migori Senate seat has disassociated his campaign with Deputy President William Ruto.

The 27-year-old aspirant, who is on a Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) ticket, insisted that his campaign is independent.

“The people of Migori should close their ears to propaganda being peddled by my opponents,” he said.

His remarks were in response to claims from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader Hassan Joho.

Joho, who led campaigns for their party candidate Ochillo Ayako, alleged that Oketch was being secretly funded by Ruto.

“The Migori senate race is a battle between Raila Odinga and the deputy president who is trying to raid the opposition’s political backyard through the Federal party candidate,” Joho claimed.

Meanwhile ODM party leader Raila Odinga is expected to pitch camp in Migori on Thursday.

He is expected to start his campaign in Rongo before heading to Awendo, Uriri ,Kuria East and Kuria West sub counties.

His itinerary indicates that he will resume the campaign tour on Friday to Nyatike, Suna East, Suna West and finally Migori town.

All public schools in Migori County that are gazetted as polling centers will be handed over to the IEBC before October 6.

The Migori Senate seat became vacant after the death of Ben Oluoch in June.

The by-election is slated for October 8 and voting will take place at 826 polling stations within Migori County.

Learning in the affected schools will resume the next day.
