Migori Speaker assaulted by goons, says ODM officials intimidating him over Obado impeachment

Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth now says he is facing intimidation from ODM Party officials ahead of the impeachment motion against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Okoth, who has since recorded a police statement, claims ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accompanied by a group of youth threatened to harm him in Kisumu.

“I was attacked yesterday in the presence and in the presence of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and whoever was attacking my bodyguard is his brother,” said Okoth.

“They thought I was with some MCAs at the hotel. My life is in danger.”

He says his office is yet to receive the impeachment motion against Obado with ODM party saying at least 20 MCAs have signed the motion to remove the governor from office.

At the same time, religious leaders in Migori County are calling on political leaders to desist from inciting locals following the arraignment of Governor Obado.

The clergy in Migori warn that reckless utterances from leaders is fueling tension in the county.

ODM party last week resolved to have the Governor Obado governor ousted from office through impeachment after the court barred him from accessing his office.

The Governor is facing charges of misappropriation of Ksh.73.4 million.
