Suspected drug barons arrested with Ksh.2M cash in Migori

Police in Migori County have arrested two suspected drug barons and recovered Ksh.2.45 million from the vehicle they were traveling in.

Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the two suspects identified as Gordon Were, 40, and Bernard Ochieng, 30, were arrested at Stella road block along Migori – Awendo highway on Sunday night by police officers acting on a tip off.

The county police boss said there were three suspects in the vehicle but one managed to escape the police trap.

He said the police found Ksh.1.5 million, USD 9,459 (Ksh.945,900) and Tsh.110,000 (Ksh.4,869) among other items hidden in the saloon car the three suspects were using.

Mr. Nthenge said they have evidence that the suspects deal in drug trafficking and that they will be arraigned in court and charged.

He added that they are still pursing the suspect who managed to escape with a black backpack when they were cornered by the police.
