Migori to pay health workers allowances

The County Government of Migori says it will pay all the health workers equal allowances for equal work arguing that all health workers have undergone an almost equal training.

According to the County Secretary, Christopher Rosana, health workers will enjoy all benefits as the nurses who have been receiving hefty allowances.

Speaking during the launching of Migori County Family Planning meet, Rosana said the county government is committed to meet requests as laid out in the earlier signed agreement to avert a looming strike.

He also reminded the health officers that the government greatly valued the good relationship between them.

Migori County CEC for Health, Kepher Nyamita, said money has been allocated in the next financial budget to facilitate community health volunteers.

A few days ago, the region’s health workers had threatened to down tools over pending allowances.

According to Migori County nurses’ union Secretary General, Catherine Tingo, the nurses called off the strike after the county government made the commitment through a written and binding document.

During that period of negotiation with the county government, the nurses had given the government seven days to revoke the show cause letters written by the Chief Officer Health, Dr Dalmas Oyugi, to the nurses’ union officials.
