Migori woman aborts fetus, leaves it by the roadside

Police and local administrators in Migori County are looking for a woman who allegedly aborted a fetus and abandoned it by a roadside in Karungu location, Migori County.

Mr John Mabeya, the Assistant County Commissioner attached to Sori Division, said they have launched investigations into the Saturday incident.

Mabeya has urged Karungu residents to report any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.

The fetus was rescued by a Good Samaritan who was walking along the Karungu road Saturday morning.

He rushed the fetus to St Camilus Hospital in Sori for urgent care. It was later moved to Homabay Hospital for intensive care.

Mr Mabeya said doctors established that the fetus was between 5 and 6 months old. It is responding positively to treatment, and Mr Mabeya says he is hopeful it will survive.

He adds that the Good Samaritan will take care of the fetus if it survives as the government plans for next course of action.
