Migori workers want report on ghost workers public

The Union of Civil Servants, Migori branch, wants the County Government of Migori to give them a copy of the employees head count report to allow them ascertain the findings and action that has been taken by the county to address cases of ghost workers.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the Union Secretary General, Dr. Alex Otieno, said the county government has refused to give them the report on the employees head count to enable them plan for their members adding that this infringes on their constitutional right to access information.

Otieno says that the ‘ghost workers’, who the county government claims to have relegated after the exercise, are well known to the employees of the county government.

Tuesday last week, Migori Governor Okoth Obado, in his address to the media, said that the County Government identified 46 ghost workers and struck them off the payroll during the head count exercise.

He added that the County Government of Migori had been losing Ksh 2.7 million every month to ghost workers.

The union officials argue that they will only trust the outcome of the report after going through it saying that there is possibility that it was just a public relation affair to deceive tax payers.
