Controversial politician Miguna Miguna on Tuesday ripped apart application forms from the Immigration department which were meant to regularise his Kenyan citizenship.

Miguna, who is being held in an undisclosed location within JKIA insists he cannot apply for citizenship because he is Kenyan by birth.

This came hours after acting Director of Immigration Services Joseph Munywoki sent the application forms to the airport for him to regularise his citizenship status.

According to the Immigration boss, Miguna lost his Kenyan status when he acquired the Canadian one in 1998, at a time when Kenya did not allow dual citizenship.

The Immigration Department tweeted; “To enable Miguna regularize his citizenship status, the Department of Immigration has this morning dispatched the requisite application forms to JKIA for Miguna to duly fill for processing.”

Miguna’s lawyers, led by James Orengo, Otiende Amollo, Cliff Ombeta and Waikwa Wanyoike of KNHCR had not had access to their client by Tuesday afternoon.

The politician had earlier refused to sign the documents saying that doing so would compromise the ongoing case.

Lawyer Cliff Ombeta had advised him against signing the documents since his rights as a Kenyan citizen were upheld by the Milimani High Court and it is now up to the Kenyan Government to prove otherwise.
