Miguna suffers major blow as running mate bolts out

Independent Nairobi gubernatorial candidate, Miguna Miguna, has suffered a major blow after his running mate, Karen Wangenye, stepped down nine days to the hotly contested August 8 elections.

Ms Wangenye, while addressing the press at a city hotel Saturday, July 29 morning, cited poor working relations with the independent candidate despite agreeing that Miguna’s ideas are what can transform the city.

“Unfortunately I’m here today to let the public know that I would like to resign from that position. Not that I do not believe in the cause; in fact, I very much believe his ideas are exactly what we need to implement to make Nairobi the green city in the sun once more,” she said.

She, however, defended her move saying that it was just a normal fallout that can happen to anyone.

“I would like to clarify that this fallout is not disloyalty, instead, its choosing to be transparent to the public.”

“I will not want to have the public deceived that the team they intend to vote in is a working team. For the team to work, the governor and his deputy need to be compatible and in agreement at all times and should be able to discuss where there are issues,” she added.

Miguna Miguna’s running mate in Nairobi Governor’s race, Karen Wangenye, who stepped down Saturday, July 29, 2017.

Ms Wangenye noted that she joined Miguna’s team because she believed in his ideologies and policies.

She, however, noted that she has nothing against Miguna but was not in a position to work with his methods of addressing issues.

“With that said, let it be known that I have nothing against the Governor and I wish him well. All I’m saying is that we are not compatible and I’m not in a position to work with his methods of addressing issues. Hence, if a team is not compatible, the it is not fit to run a high government office.”

In the latest opinion poll, Miguna has attracted a less than 1% popularity with his competitors, Mike Sonko (Jubilee) and Evans Kidero (ODM) drawing at 45% while Peter Kenneth attracts a popularity of 3%.

Miguna has been a fierce critic of his competitors terming them as incompetent leaders.
