Migunas demagogue the most searched word in Kenya

Search engine giant Google has revealed top trending searches that have been keeping Kenyans busy on the internet in the month of October.

Miguna Miguna’s “demagogue” tops the list of trend searches after he used the infamous word in a popular TV show where he put the host on the spot for not knowing the meaning of a demagogue.

The outspoken politician, when talking of Deputy President William Ruto said; “He will never be president, too dangerous… the man is a demagogue.”

Consequently, Kenyans who were also taken aback by the word have been combing Google for the actual meaning and this has driven it to the top of the search list. The word, which means a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false promises in order to gain power, became more popular after Twitter trolls used it in creating memes.

Jimmy Wanjigi‘s home raid which yielded his maiden appearance to the public had Kenyans hitting their keyboards to unravel the mystery behind him and his wife Nzisa and this helped get him on the top ten trends.

Harvey Weinstein, a powerful Hollywood producer made it to Kenya’s top trending searches but for all the wrong reasons. Kenyans were curious to find out who sexually assaulted our import to Hollywood, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. Harvey has been accused by over 40 women of sexually assaulting or raping them.

Dennis Oliech also topped the list after a photo of him dressed “shabbly” got him trolled and many saying he is washed up and broke. Days later, it was reported that the former Harambee Stars striker had landed a Ksh.8 million deal with his former employer, Nantes FC.

The resignation of IEBC Commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe and fleeing the country almost broke the internet so her being in the most searched list is not really a surprise.

Kenyans are also interested in world news and the Las Vegas deadly shooting that left 58 dead and 546 injured was a heavily searched topic.

Blogger Sharon Mundia or This is Ess to her fans was on the news with rumours of her separation from her husband. This goes on to show just how popular she as no other blogger would probably get people talking this much.

A Kikuyu comedian who was found dead and dumped in Thika after going missing for a week also made it on the list. It is alleged that he had been abducted a week before the start of the month by unknown people while on his way to Thika.

Another popular search was Mashujaa Day which is observed on October 20 as a public holiday.
