  • Speaking on Citizen TV's Power Breakfast show, Speaker Elachi on Monday morning said the nomination will go through due process regardless of whether the nominee (Miguna) is in the country or not.
  • Sonko forwarded Miguna’s name to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi on May 18 for vetting and approval by the House.
  • Miguna, however, rejected the nomination describing it as a malicious distraction.

The controversial nomination of Lawyer Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Deputy Governor will be tabled before the County Assembly for debate this week, Speaker Beatrice Elachi has said.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast show, Speaker Elachi on Monday morning said the nomination will go through due process regardless of whether the nominee (Miguna) is in the country or not.

“We will table the motion before the assembly this week, I don’t want to talk much about it as it is a matter to be discussed before all members of the County Assembly,” said Alachi.

“Once it is tabled this week then from there it will move according to the Standing Orders.”

Sonko forwarded Miguna’s name to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker on May 18 for vetting and approval, but the process appeared to have stalled as debate on mainstream and social media platforms took centre stage.

“I hereby forward my nominee, Lawyer Miguna Miguna to undergo full vetting process and approval by the County Assembly for the position of Deputy Governor,” said Sonko in the nomination letter.

“The nominee meets all the requirements provided for in the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, the Elections Act and County Government Act.”

Miguna, however, rejected the nomination describing it as a malicious distraction.
