Milimani Law Courts closed after staffers experienced coronavirus-like symptoms

The Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi has been temporarily closed after staffers experienced symptoms similar to those of the novel coronavirus.

A statement from Chief Justice David Maraga said one member of staff has since tested positive for COVID-19.

“That member of staff had physical contact with several others before testing positive,” he said.

The Chief Justice directed that the Milimani Law Courts remain closed for 14 days with effect from July 30, 2020.

According to him, the leadership of the judiciary in consultation with the Health Ministry has suspended physical court operations to enable affected staffers to self-quarantine.

They will subsequently undergo COVID-19 testing before they are allowed to resume physical operations at the Milimani Law Courts.

The closure comes barely hours after operations at the Rongo Law Courts were also suspended for 14 days after staffers tested positive for the virus.

Three suspects who had been arraigned at the Rongo court have reportedly also tested positive.
