Military Plane Crash In Elwak

A Kenya Defence Forces aircraft crashed in Elwak, Mandera County killing one military officer and seriously injuring 15 others. Confirming the incident, Mandera County Commander Noah Mwivanda said the aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Elwak military base killing the pilot on the spot. Mwivanda said 14 other occupants including two police officers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Elwak hospital. He said the aircraft, A Y12, had taken off from Elwak at around 5pm en route to Wajir military base when the accident occurred. Mwivanda said preliminary investigations indicate that the aircraft developed engine failure before tumbling. The aircraft was extensively damaged. Defence spokesman Bogita Ongeri said another military aircraft has been dispatched to Elwak to airlift the injured to Nairobi for further treatment.
