Minerals exploration project kicks off

The Ministry of Mining will spend Ksh 3 billion for the first phase of exploration and extraction of minerals in Kenya, beginning with Nyanza region.

Through ‘Project Tai’,  the specific areas where minerals, water, oil, gas and other natural resources can be found countrywide will be identified.

The project will span through five years covering five mining blocks in five areas.

Speaking at Kopuodho gold mine in Rongo Sub County during a fact finding mission in Migori County, Mining Cabinet Secretary, Dan Kazungu, said that the survey aimed at ascertaining the amount of each mineral within the five mining blocks and is set to begin from the Nyanza region.

Kazungu called upon companies interested in extracting minerals on individual or community land to get consent from the owners before starting the process.
