Miners want gov’t to ‘buy’ gold
Gold miners at Komito gold mine in Migori County are now appealing to the county government to support the industry which they say has employed over 1,000 people in the county.
The miners, who currently operate without modern mining equipment, are decrying the numerous challenges they face among them the pricing of the gold and security at the mining sites.
According to Komito’s gold mine chairman Ezekiel Otieno, miners continue to work tirelessly though the output is not commensurate with their effort especially because of unpredicted market price
His sentiments were echoed by yet another leader George Otieno, who wants the Migori County Governor to bring in an expert in the mine to help them address some challenges in the mine saying that in some cases they mine gold with different colors which they do not understand.
The miners are also appealing to the county government to assist them enhance their output from the mining.
