Ministry Of Education To Fight FGM

Girls have allegedly been undergoing the outlawed cut with the full knowledge of their parents.

Parents have already been cautioned to refrain from the practice.

Speaking during a cultural event at Narok Teachers Training College, Narok North District Education Officer Kuyo Ole Saionah said that the partnership will help to discourage parents from marrying off their school going daughters.

Ole Saionah added that there was fear that parents might encourage their daughters to undergo the cut during the holiday season.

It is reported that some communities still practise the outlawed culture underground.

The government and human rights groups say that the practice is not as rampant as it was 10 years ago.
