Ministry of Health: Lemon, honey, and ginger are not a cure for COVID-19

The Ministry of Health has sought to clarify to the public that lemon, ginger and honey are good for the human body but that they are not an actual cure for COVID-19.

The remark comes on the backdrop of speculations among members of the public, leading to doubling of the prices of lemon and ginger in the market by traders owing to a perceived advantage over the disease.

Acting Director General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth issued the clarification on Friday when officials from the ministry, led by CS Mutahi Kagwe, toured health facilities in Kisii to establish the county’s preparedness in tackling the pandemic.

“Ginger, lemon and honey are good because they are sources of vitamins and micro nutrients, but the message to take home today is that there is still no cure for COVID-19,” said Dr. Amoth.

“I will not stop you from taking your ginger honey or lemon as many times as you want but for sure it’s not a treatment for COVID-19.”
