Ministry rubbishes claims that Wario, Ekai and other Kenyan envoys were rejected

The Foreign Affairs ministry has rubbished claims that seven countries rejected Kenyan envoys appointed to serve in their countries.

In a Press statement dated February 7, 2019, the government termed the report published in the Daily Nation as ‘innuendo and fabrications.’

“Kenya has never had any envoy rejected and that all the countries are ready to receive them,” reads the statement.

The article appeared on Thursday and was titled ‘Confusion as Kenyatta’s new envoys yet to report to stations.’

According to the Foreign Affairs ministry, the posting of the said envoys was done after careful assessment.

This despite two of the appointees; former Sports CS Hassan Wario and his PS Richard Ekai, facing charges linked to the misuse of funds during the Rio Olympics.

The ministry insists that the preparation for the deployment is ‘ongoing’ and has asked the local daily to retract the story.

Qatar through its embassy in Kenya on Thursday also dismissed claims that it is one of the countries that rejected the nomination of an envoy.

A statement said the embassy approved the nomination of Ambassador Paddy Ahenda on October 10, 2018.

The embassy was responding to an article with the headline Fate of 7 Kenyan envoys in Limbo in the People Daily newspaper.

It further noted that the Kenyan Ambassador travelled to Qatar and even took up his position after it was approved.

The other individuals mentioned in the article were Benjamin Langat (Namibia), Johnson Kimani Ondiek (Turkey), Sarah Serem (China), Samuel Thuita (Israel), Chris and Karumba Mburu (South Sudan).

Former State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu who was deployed to the U.K. is allegedly yet to present his credentials.
