Minor arrested with bhang worth Ksh.105,000 in Migori

Police have arrested a minor and seized 353 rolls of bhang estimated to be worth Ksh.105,000 along the Sirari-Migori highway.

The 17-year-old was arrested by administration police officers in Namba on Friday at 5am.

Migori County police boss Julius Amariko Makanda said the suspect was seized in the company of a male adult identified as Victor Sigei who escaped the dragnet.

“The two suspects were ferrying bhang from Sirari in the border of Migori and Tanzania to Bomet County,” he said.

He further revealed that in the past one week, police have arrested several suspects found with bhang amounting to over Ksh.7million.

The police boss also warned that they are also following major leads on drug barons in the county and those found culpable will face the law.

Meanwhile, members of Youth against Drugs and Substance Abuse (YADASAH), a nonprofit organization, have decried the high number of youths involved in bhang trafficking in Migori County.

Chairman Okoth Ochanjo said majority of those arrested are youths being used to ferry narcotics.

He urged the government to swiftly act on the matter and engage the youth in useful activities.
