Minor commits suicide as KCSE delayed over floods

A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday, November 21 for reasons not known to anybody.

The boy, who had just sat his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Bulime Primary School, Kakamega, was found dead at their house Tuesday afternoon.

His body was found dangling at the middle of the house.

“He just sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) the other day, we don’t know what prompted his decision to commit suicide and he was a bright student,” one of the witnesses who sought anonymity said.

Elsewhere, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) papers were delayed in Kipsing Secondary School, Isiolo County, following heavy rains overnight.

The students were forced to wait for more than three hours, awaiting the arrival of the Physics and History papers.

According to the examination officials, the papers were transported from Oldonyiro at 6:00 am, but flash floods that caused the bursting of River Longopito banks led to the delay.

“The Longopito river was flooded, which forced us to ask for help from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and they dispatched a helicopter to assist in ferrying the papers,” noted MwachungaChaunga, a KNEC official in Isiolo.
