Minor commits suicide for fear of being beaten

Panic gripped Kelelwa village in Mogotio Sub County after a 10-year-old standard three boy committed suicide for fear of being punished after he allegedly allowed his father’s cattle to destroy neighbour’s food crops.

According to reports, the boy committed suicide to avoid a possible whipping by his parents.

Sources indicate that the boy took his tea in the morning before heading to the nearby bush where he hung himself.

Neighbours said that his mother had left him at home to go and carry on her charcoal burning business but on coming back, she could not locate the boy.

She got information later from herders about a body that had been seen dangling from a tree in a nearby bush.

Area Chief, julius Kangongo, said that the police have since started investigations.

The body was removed to Nakuru County Hospital mortuary.
