Minors saved from Nyeri employers beating them in public

Two underage kids were Saturday, April 1 morning rescued by members of the public from their employers at Nyeri bus park where they were dumped after working as house girls for one and half months.

Their employers, who are said to be wives of two King’ong’o prison wardens, are alleged to have dumped the minors at the stage where they harassed them that they will be arrested and taken to King’ong’o Maximum Prison if they dare ask for their salary.

It caught the attention of the public when the two ladies identified as Lena and Deborah started beating up the kids when they asked for bus fare but irate touts and kiosk operators came to the rescue of the children.

The kids, who said that they hail from Bungoma and were snatched from their grandmother and brought to Nyeri, narrated how they were subjected to hard household chores with no pay.

In addition, they said they were in Standard Seven and they are willing to go back to school if they return home noting that their grandmother does not know of their whereabouts.

Deputy Officer in charge King’ongo GK Prison, Peter Mwangi Kambo, said it was unfortunate his officers were involved in the commotion to an extent of engaging in physical fight with members of the public when they went to rescue the ladies.

He also noted that investigations have been launched to ensure justice is served.
