Miraa Drivers Kill Two In Kirinyaga

The accident, which occured near Wamumu in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, involved a lorry and a pickup reported to have been ferrying Miraa.

According to Paul Bundi, an eye witness, the motorcyclist who was carrying a passenger was trying to overtake a lorry when the said miraa pickup heading to Nairobi ran over them.

The two died on the spot and their bodies have since been taken to Mwea Karira mortuary in Kirinyaga.

Kirinyaga Deputy Police Commander Charles Ontita said that police have launched investigations into the accident.

 

DANGEROUS DRIVING

 

The accident comes just a week after eight other persons were killed and several others injured following an accident involving a miraa-ferrying lorry and a matatu along the Meru-Embu highway.

 

Miraa drivers have been warned by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to obey traffic rules or risk being banned on the roads.

 

Over the years, miraa drivers have been accused of driving carelessly endagering lifes of other motorists.

 

They have also been accused of ignoring traffic rules while in a hurry to transport the highly perishable commodity.
