Miraa farmers celebrate lifting of ban by Mogadishu
Miraa farmers and business persons are a happy lot following the lifting of miraa ban by the Somalia Republic Tuesday, September 13 following an intervention by President Uhuru Kenyatta while attending the IGAD meeting in Mogadishu.
Residents of Igembe sub-counties have praised the President’s intervention and called upon the local leaders to avoid politicizing miraa saying it is their source of livelihood.
They now point that business has resumed normalcy following the lifting of the ban by Somalia.
Reports indicated that the ban was placed after Meru Governor, Peter Munya, breached territorial authority and protocol by visiting Hargeisia, Somaliland without informing Mogadishu, claims Munya has since dismissed.
Munya termed the accusations as mere political propaganda, and hinted that the ban may have been as a result of terror threats targeting an IGAD Heads of State meeting that was held Tuesday, September 13 in Mogadishu.
