Mishi Mboko’s son-in-law arrested over suspected murder

Police in Mombasa County have arrested the son-in-law of Mombasa Women Representative, Mishi Mboko, on suspicion of murdering a guard.

Tariq Twalib, 19, is being held at the Makupa Police Station after he allegedly beat to death a guard, namely Peter Granton, who was working for a private security firm in Mombasa.

Mr Twalib was arrested at his Majengo home on Wednesday, March 29.

According to the police, Mr Twalib and a group of six men, yet to be identified, ganged up against the now-late Granton at Mji wa Kale area in Majengo after they accused him of stealing a wallet that had KSh1, 200 from Mr Twalib’s house.

Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara said Granton died shortly after being rushed to the Coast General Hospital.

Mr Ogara says investigations into Granton’s murder have since been launched, and police are looking for the other six men who allegedly participated in beating Mr Granton to death.

Mr Twalib is the husband of Hafidha Wakesho, who is Mishi Mboko’s daughter.

Twalib and Wakesho tied the knot early March, 2017 in a colourful ceremony that was attended by top Coast politicians, among them Mombasa Governor Ali Joho.
