Missing county generator found in former governors hotel

A generator worth Ksh.2.5 million belonging to Tharaka Nithi County has been found at a hotel owned by former Governor Samuel Ragwa.

The generator was found installed at Sammerton Hotel in Kathwana town on Friday afternoon by officials who were tipped off by the county’s technical operator.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Director Trade and Investments in the County, Protus Kathenya said that the generator went missing early 2017 prompting county officials to probe its disappearance.

“In 2014 we received two generators from a development partner known as Ahadi Kenya Trust. We decided one of them was going to be installed at the county headquarters and the other one at a county health centre, the one at the headquarters became faulty earlier this year and it was not until then we realised that the other one was missing,” said Mr. Kathenya.

“The current administration has been probing the whereabouts of the generator and today as I was travelling I was called and summoned to Sammerton Hotel where we found the it.”

Speaking to Citizen Digital Ragwa confirmed that the generator is indeed County Government property.

“The generator is indeed county property. I had simply borrowed it from the County and installed it temporarily because I was to return it after the elections,” said Ragwa.

Tharaka Nithi County Commander Mary Omari said that the police have seized the generator.
