The Fly SAX plane that went missing on Tuesday evening is yet to be found 21 hours after it went missing.

According to Nyandarua County Commissioner Boas Cherotich, bad weather continues to hamper search operations.

“The search will be carried out for the next 24 hours until we are able to recover the lost aircraft,” he said during a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

The commissioner further noted that a command centre has been established at Njabini Town to coordinate the exercise.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Forestry Service (KFS), Red Cross and that National Disaster and Management Unit (NDMU) are conducting the search.

Three helicopters have been charged with aerial surveys while the ground search has been extended to cover several parts of the Aberdares, NDMU Deputy Director Pius Masai added.

He confirmed earlier reports that phone signals from the two pilots were traced to the zone where they are focusing on.

“Residents with information that could help in the search for the missing aircaft should report to the command centre,” Masai urged.

The Cesna C208 plane with registration number 5Y-CAC had ten people on board.

It was enroute to Nairobi from Kitale on Tuesday and was scheduled to land at 5:20pm, the same time that it went off the radar.

The aircraft has a capacity of 12 and is operated by Fly540.
