Missing Form One girl found raped by three men in Busia

A Form One girl from Butula sub-county in Busia County who went missing five days ago has been found.

According to police, the girl was raped, drugged and abandoned near River Bujumba by three unknown men who kidnapped her.

Two suspects have since been arrested and are presently in custody at Bumala Police Station.

Speaking to the press at the police station, the girl’s mother said the wife of one of the suspects attempted to bribe her with Ksh.10,000 to settle the issue out of court.

“Alitoka akienda shule lakini hakufika shuleni, walimuhijack wakaenda wakamnajisi,” she said.

[“She left for school but did not reach there, they hicjacked here and proceeded to rape her.”]

Mary Makokha, the director of Rural Education and Economic Enhancement Program (REEP), a non-governmental organization responsible for the rescue of abused children, said many rape cases have been reported in the area in recent times.

She further blamed the night discos for a rise in the incidence of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), among them HIV, among youth in Busia.

“Right now cases that have been reported here are 13, 624… we don’t hear our leaders talking about it and it’s because people fear,” she said.
