Missing KCPE candidate found dead

A candidate who was set to sit this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination was on Tuesday found dead in a dam in Laikipia County.

Anthony Wambugu, 16, was a candidate at Ng’elesha Primary School in Matwiku location and had been reported missing since Thursday, October 25.  His body was discovered in the morning at a man made dam a few metres from their home.

Laikipia County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha confirmed the incident, saying the body was retrieved from the dam and taken to Nyahururu Referral Hospital mortuary.

Speaking on Wednesday in Nanyuki after overseeing the distribution of examination materials in the presence of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, the county commissioner added that the candidate, who was an orphan, lived with his 79-year-old grandmother.

Meanwhile, the county commissioner noted that the examination process was going on smoothly in the area without hitches, except for some 21 privately registered candidates who failed to show up at the centres to sit for their papers.

CS Wamalwa said he was impressed with the coordination of the exercise in the area adding that the government was taking the integrity of the examination as a matter of vital importance.

Later on, the CS visited Nanyuki Town Primary School and Mary Immaculate Primary School where he oversaw the exam materials being distributed to candidates.
