Missing Kirinyaga man found dead at businessman’s home

Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating circumstances under which a 42-year-old man was found dead at the home of a businessman at Mirichi sub-location near Kianyaga trading centre in Gichugu Constituency.

Confirming the incident, Gichugu OCPD Anthony Mbogo said the deceased, James Muriuki, was reported missing by his relatives on Thursday, January 2 only to be found on Sunday, January 5, dangling from an avocado tree inside the highly secured homestead.

The home is surrounded by a 15 ft perimeter wall with a galvanised razor wire mounted on it.

According to the OCPD, the discovery of the body was reported to police by the businessman’s widow, Lydia Wakuthii Ndamberi.

“We are shocked the man decided to climb this 15 ft perimeter wall to commit suicide inside this home,” said the OCPD.

Police who arrived at the scene collected identification documents from the man’s pockets which they used to trace his relatives.

The man had allegedly hanged himself with a barbed wire that was tightly tied around his neck.

Police sources disclosed that CCTV footage obtained from the home indicate that the man committed suicide.

However, the man’s family, who will be invited on Monday for a scrutiny of the CCTV footage, are wondering how their kin, who lived 2 kilometres away from the businessman’s home scaled the 15ft wall to kill himself.

“We were wondering how he committed suicide at that home yet there is an electric fence and CCTV cameras,” his cousin Haron Muriithi questioned.
