MKU student stabbed to death, one suspect arrested

Police have arrested a suspect believed to have been behind the killing a 19-year-old university student near Witeithie Trading center along Juja-Thika Road on Wednesday evening.

Thika Deputy County Commissioner Douglas Mutai said the suspect, who was arrested by police on patrol, was found with a sword.

According to the deputy commissioner, the suspect was detained pending identification by two witnesses who were in the company of the Second Year Mount Kenya University (MKU) student when they were accosted by two men near Castle Retreat Centre along the Thika Superhighway.

Mr. Mutai said the unknown thugs demanded for the deceased student’s phone but he resisted prompting them to knife him on the chest killing him on the spot.

Speaking from his office, the deputy commissioner reassured residents of Thika town that security had been police patrols had been increased in the area after several cases of insecurity were reported recently.

He said security apparatus within Thika East, Thika West and Juja Sub-counties are working in collaboration to curb the criminal activities in the area.
