Mob lynches two livestock thiefs in Kericho

Two suspected cattle rustlers were Tuesday evening lynched by irate members of the public at Borborwet Village in the outskirts of Kapsoit trading centre in Kericho County.

Confirming the incident, Kiptugumo sub-location assistant chief, Philip Kemboi said the two were suspected of stealing four goats belonging to one of the villagers and trying to escape in a Toyota Premio vehicle.

“Members of the public who were monitoring the vehicle discovered that they had stolen the goats and raised alarm which attracted the villagers and boda boda operators who pursued the vehicle,”

According to chief Kemboi, the suspects drove towards Kipsitet trading centre but on realizing that the road had been barricaded, they hastily changed the route and drove fast towards Kapsoit trading center.

The duo were nabbed by the irate mob and beaten to death.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly escaped death by a whisker, as the mob could not trace him in the tea farms where the other two had taken cover.

The four goats that had been stolen were recovered and handed back to the owner.

Sosiot police officers have since taken the bodies of the suspects to Kericho District Hospital mortuary, and the vehicle towed to Kericho Police Station.
