Moi meets Ruto at burial of Baringo South MP

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday met with his political rival Senator Gideon Moi at a burial in Baringo.

Ruto and Moi were the talk of the town this week after the Deputy President failed to meet with former Head of State Daniel Moi despite waiting for two hours.

On Saturday, the two leaders shook hands with Senator Moi pulling a dramatic stunt by leaving the VIP tent to go sit with mourners on the ground.

Leo nimekuja kuzika huyu mama kwa sababu alisomeshwa na Baba yangu..sijakuja kuongea siasa (Today I have come to bury our mother because she was educated by my father…I have not come to talk politics),” he told the crowd.

Speculations were rife that Mr. Ruto had been barred from seeing the retired President by his son Gideon Moi.

However, his allies insist that the meeting had been scheduled after Energy CS Charles Keter requested for the visit.

Others claimed that he had appeared at Moi’s home in Kabarak without an appointment.

Mr. Ruto has not issued any statement since the incident occurred.

The burial on Saturday was for the late Grace Jelagat Kipchoim, Baringo South MP, who died on April 20 following a long illness.

The late Kipchoim had been battling colon cancer for close to six years.

She was laid to rest at her Kimoriot home in Marigat.
