Moi Referral Hospital to release 35,000 ID cards

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret has joined the voter registration mobilisation campaign.

As a way of ensuring as many Kenyans as possible are listed as voters in the ongoing voter registration, the hospital says that it will now release ID cards of patients who pay 50% of their outstanding medical fee balances.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Kirwa, says that the facility decided to write off half of all the debts owed to its by patients so as not to lock them out of the voter registration exercise.

Mr Kirwa added that the facility will work with the families unable to pay debts to see how best to settle them and release the ID cards.

This comes after the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu passed a Bill seeking to have the facility releases all the 35,000 ID cards it holds.
