Moi University satellite campus won’t be shut, says Yala MCA

Siaya County Representative for Yala Township Ward Mr. Joseph K’awuor has called upon leaders in Gem sub- County to stop politicizing Moi University’s Odera Akang’o satellite campus by speculating about its closure.

Speaking during a press briefing in Yala Town, Mr K’awuor claimed that the fears as to whether the university would be shut down over inadequate land were unfounded.

The MCA said that part of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s 108 acre land would be leased to expand the campus.

“The campus has just admitted at least 60 new students posted by the government, there is no need for worry or unnecessary noise,” said the MCA.

Gem sub-County leaders had recently raised fears over the delayed posting of first year students to the satellite campus.

The MCA challenged the leaders to consider sponsoring private students to join the institution, noting that ward representatives from the region had resolved to give first priority to Odera Akang’o campus students when disbursing County government bursaries.
