Moi University VC Ayiros contract extended again

Moi University acting Vice-Chancellor Laban Ayiro’s contract has been extended for another six months, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’i announced.

Prof Ayiro’s term has been extended for the third term since he was appointed in September last year to replace Prof Richard Mibey whose term had expired.

Dr Matiang’i’s extension of Prof Ayiro’s contract is meant to give the university ample time to find a suitable candidate to fill the position.

“Further to my letter dated 9th, December, 2016, I write to extend your appointment as the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Moi University for further period of six months. This appointment automatically terminates on the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor should that happen inside the period of the (6) months,” read the letter written by Dr Fred Matiangi.

The letter, dated 12th September, 2017, was copied to University Education PS Prof Collete Suda and Moi University Council Chairperson Dr Jeremiah Ntoloi Koshal.

Prof Ayiro’s contract is being extended for the third time after the first extension in December 2016 and the second one in March this year.

He has been applauded for bringing changes and implementing strict policies at the varsity.

In his term in office, the strict administrator has been praised by students and the community who have dubbed him “Ayiro the Hero”.

Despite the backlash that met his appointment by the local leaders led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, former Kesses MP James Batt and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi among others, he has since built a multi-million perimeter wall, an ultramodern gate and is currently renovating the varsity hostels.
