Mombasa Churches to inform police of night activities

Churches wishing to hold night services (keshas) in Kisauni, Mombasa during the Christmas and New Year festivities have been asked to inform the authorities in time for deployment of security personnel in the areas.

Speaking in a meeting with Pastors of Kisauni, Deputy County Commissioner Julius Kvita said they will need to know which churches need police and their locations.

“You have to inform us on time because we want to offer ample security,” he said.

Kavita also asked the churches to install security lights during the keshas and control people attending the services.

“When the keshas are over, announce to them to leave in groups.”

Churches in residential areas should also not play loud music and if need be the authorities and residents should be informed before.

Pastors and residents raised some concerns during the meeting.

The Pastors said that most of the streets are not named and it gives them hard time to explain to the police where they are located in case of emergencies.

They also asked for stand by security response teams.

Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia asked residents to always give the right information and be willing to testify in court.
