Mombasa county assembly speaker steps aside temporarily

Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Thadius Rajwayi has temporarily stepped aside from his position to allow a motion seeking to impeach him to be debated.

The petition by Tudor MCA Patrick Simiyu that was tabled on Tuesday evening accused the speaker of abuse of office, gross negligence as well as illegal procurement of gowns.

Attempts by Kongowea Ward MCA Jabez Oduor to stop the motion were rejected after the House disapproved the procedure he used to bring a court order.

Mohammed Hatimy, a nominated MCA and ODM chairman Mombasa County, was accused of using his party position to intimidate and control the house business.

The motion will be discussed next week Tuesday to give Rajwayi  an  opportunity to defend himself.
