A couple in Mombasa were on Tuesday charged with giving false information about a kidnap and a procured abortion.

Saida Abderehman and Mohammed Abdulkarim appeared before Mombasa Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno and denied the charges.

They were later freed on Ksh.100,000 bond each.

In the first count, Mohammed was charged that on September 20, last year, while at Makupa Police Station in Mvita, Mombasa County, he gave false information to a police officer Cyrus Mbugua claiming that the wife who was allegedly 8-months pregnant had disappeared on her way to Lamu where her mother lives.

In the second count, Saida was charged with giving false information to Dr. Nafsa Mohammed.

On September 24, 2018, it was reported that she told the doctor that she was eight months pregnant and after being abducted she was forced to have an abortion, a statement she knew was untrue.

The medical officer recorded a statement on the same.

The case will be mentioned on January 24.
