Mombasa: Gang kills 4 who intervened during robbery at M-Pesa shop

By Francis Mtalaki

Police in Kisauni, Mombasa County, are investigating the killing of four people by masked armed gunmen on Sunday night.

Three other people are still nursing injuries at the Coast General Hospital with one of them reported to be in critical condition following the incident.

The gang is said to have shot the four who intervened as they robbed an M-Pesa outlet in Majaoni area.

The armed gang of three is said to have made their way to one of the M-Pesa shops and, as residents tried to surround and arrest them, they began firing.

Police have since banned night operations by boda bodas in the area as they (boda bodas) have become the latest tactic used by thugs to rob and terrorize residents in the area.

Residents now say they are living in fear but, according to the police, investigations have already been launched and there is nothing to worry about.

The incident comes barely a week after the political class from Mombasa, security apparatus, civil society, and the religious leaders met to find a lasting solution to the ever-growing concern of insecurity.
