Governor Joho visits Moi in Kabarak

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is the latest politician to visit retired President Daniel arap Moi.

Joho, the former Head of State and his son Gideon Moi (Baringo Senator) held private talks in Kabarak on Saturday.

“In the spirit of building bridges and fostering unity, I was honored to sit down with former President H.E Daniel T. Moi at his home in Kabarak. I was fortunate to hear his wisdom on some national issues and thanked him for his time at the helm of this country,” Joho said after the meetings.

According to him, it is very rare for leaders to get the opportunity to “fix” political divisions. “History is full of countries that have gone down the wrong path,” he added.

The Governor cited the recent unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga saying that it is a unique opportunity to change the future for Kenyans.

He urged wananchi to embrace the deal which according to him will create a “fair, just & caring society for our children”.

Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat,  Tiaty MP William Kamket and Moiben MP Silas Tiren were also present at the meeting.

In recent days, Kenyan politicians have been seeking audience with the former president.

However, on May 4, 2018, Deputy President William Ruto was disappointed after he travelled to Kabarak but was blocked from seeing Moi.

It was later alleged that DP Ruto, who was in company of Energy CS Charles Keter, had not made prior arrangements to see the former Head of State.

Barely two months after the incident, President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Moi and held a brief meeting with him.

A statement from Moi’s office would later reveal that Kenyatta wished Moi a quick recovery to Moi after a recent surgery.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who is also the KANU party chairman, was present during the meeting.

On April 12, 2018, opposition leader Raila Odinga also visited the retired president in Kabarak.

He was accompanied by Mvita MP Abdulswamwad Shariff Nassir and Senator George Khaniri of Vihiga.

Reports indicate that Raila briefed Moi on the unity deal with President Kenyatta that ended the political stalemate over last year’s presidential elections.
