Mombasa hotels register 100% occupancy ahead of New Year celebrations

Hoteliers at the South Coast in Mombasa are registering 90 to 100 per cent bed occupancy in Diani during the New Year festivities.

This is an improvement from the Christmas festivities where the hotels registered about 60 to 80 per cent.

The hoteliers say that this season has been booming with many domestic tourists and few international tourists.

“According to New Year bookings we are expecting 90 to 100 percent occupancy in our facility, what is happening is that the guests who were here for Christmas have checked out to pave way for the New Year guests,” said Vivian Mutulis, the Public Relations officer of Leisure Lodge.

The holidays have brought good tidings to Diani Beach that was voted Africa’s dream travel destination in the Africa Travel Awards for three consecutive years.

“Our Facility has been fully booked for New Year; some people tend to celebrate Christmas at home and the New Year away from home and vice versa. In this case, those celebrating the New Year in hotels are more,” said Titus Kangangi, the CEO at Diani Reef Resort.

For holiday makers it’s all about planning ahead of the festivities.

“What you just need to do is plan early and be disciplined and focused with your finances to save. That will enable you afford any facility of your choice,” advised Catherine Muthue, a tourist from Nairobi.
