Mombasa Nurses Set to Go on Strike

Led by the County Nurses Secretary Peter Maroko, they claim that apart from salary, the county government has refused to give them allowances, including pension and NSSF.

The nurses claim that since the county government came into existence they have never received any allowance.

They argue that the national government used to give allowances, including clothing and housing.

They blame the government for not making any step to increase their salaries yet the national government would send money every financial year.

Kenya National Union Mombasa Branch Trustee Stanley Mwailogho said a strike will be inevitable if the county government will not attend to their grievances.

He said if the county office delays, they will down their tools and paralyze operations in all county hospitals.

In January 2015, nurses in Mombasa County threatened to go on strike demanding annual uniform allowance of Sh10,000 among others.
