Mombasa police ban Jubilee rally set for Sunday

Police in Mombasa have banned Sunday’s Jubilee rally that was to be held at Mvita grounds a few meters from the opposition NASA rally that is scheduled to be held at Tononoka grounds.

Mombasa County Commander Peterson Maelo says police were not notified about the Jubilee rally organized by the aspirant for the Mombasa governor’s seat Suleiman Shahbal to counter the NASA rally at Tononoka grounds.

Police sources indicate that Jubilee officials were advised to postpone their rally for security reasons.

The County Commander Maelo said police would provide adequate security for the NASA rally at the historic Tononoka grounds that will be attended by opposition leader Raila Odinga, Mombasaa Governor Ali Hassan Joho among other opposition leaders.
